Teacher Profiles
Blake Hamilton
Blake Hamilton
Blake is a born and bred Brandonite who started on his yoga journey in Victoria B.C. in the winter of 2004, and recieved his teacher training in the spring of 2006 at the Moksana Yoga Center, Victoria. Apon returning to Brandon in the fall of '06 he started at various community centers, dance studios, the Sportsplex, a skate board shop, and various other locations, bringing yoga to people, many for the first time, in the challenging, yet enjoyable and light hearted manner that makes his classes distinct. Travelling again in '08 for the better part of a year, Blake found himself teaching yoga on beaches in Mexico, in Jungles in Costa Rica, in deserts, in parking lots etc., and apon his return, enjoyed the opportunity to teach classes at the Gypsey Jive Dance Studio. He is thrilled to be teaching at and actual yoga studio(!) here at Sacred Tree. Yoga is a way of life, and it starts in the body, mind, and heart of the practioner. To create positivity outwardly, we must first create positivity inwardly! Blake's classes usually consist of a grounding meditation, pranayama, spine warmup, a little aerobic vinyasa, balances, inversions, deep stretches, and a relaxing guided tour or the body in chavasana, which sometimes has a person or two gently snoring within five minutes. His Classes are a tonic for the whole body, and while there may be a focus on a particular area, or activity, his sessions are organic and adaptive to the needs of the individuals in the class. All are welcome! Blake spends his time coordinating the New Era Community School Friendship Garden where he is employed by the school division to incorporate gardening into the curriculum. He works on a nearby market garden, is a landscaper, arborist, and is a disc jockey and promoter with the Good Vibe Tribe -a community sound system and "Riddim" collective, that he operates with a group of friends. He is also a member of Omulu Guanabara Capoeira group here in Brandon, and will be travelling to Brazil at the end of November with his teacher to participate in some important events and further his understanding of this Five Hundred year old art form from Brazil. Capoeira combines martial arts with dance, acrobatics, song and instrumentation. He plans on returning to the Sacred Tree Studio apon his return in February.
