The LafayetteCenter for Yoga is the only location in Lafayette dedicated exclusively to the practice of Hatha Yoga. Lydia, ERYT and Michael, ERYT are Registered Teachers with Yoga Alliance and established the center in 2006. Lydia also offers Certified Yoga Teacher Training and Workshops, one of the few schools in Louisiana registered with Yoga Alliance. They bring a unique approach to teaching and practicing Hatha Yoga to Acadiana.

Learn The Way of Yoga including, awareness of breath and posture, hands-on physical adjustments and benefits of the poses. Find your personal edge (neither forcing nor holding back) and then learn to relax and soften around your edge.

Lydia Morton
Lydia Morton
Lydia has worked in the fitness industry for over 20 years, with the last 10 years devoted to her Hatha Yoga practice and teaching. She earned her Teacher Training certification in 2003 and joined the teaching staff at Jonny Kest Center for Yoga. She also taught Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Slow Flow in other locations in the Detroit Metro area. She has studied with David Williams, Doug Swenson, Jonny Kest (all students of Pattabhi Jois), Paul Grilley, Lillias Folan, Rama Birch, Seane Corn, Steve Ross, Mark Whitwell and Vinnie Moreno. Prior to teaching yoga, she taught Step, Double Step, Hi/Lo, Interval Training and Slide aerobics at major health clubs and corporate venues throughout the Dallas, TX area. At the same time, she maintained private Personal Training clientele at the Austin Gym in Dallas, TX. She presented at Fitness Workshops and Master Classes in the Dallas area and represented Reebok as part of a Demo Team for local sporting goods stores. She is currently a registered Experienced Yoga Alliance Teacher (ERYT) and maintains the Red Cross CPR certification. Lydia was formerly certified in Aerobics and Personal Training with ACE (American Council on Exercise), THIN (The Health Instructors Network) and received her Personal Training certification from The Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research in Dallas Texas.
Michael Morton
Michael Morton
Michael is a long time practitioner of Hatha Yoga and completed his Teacher Training in 2006. After retirement as an executive from DaimlerChrysler, he began teaching at Gilda's Club in Detroit, a free support community for anyone touched by cancer. He studied, trained and was certified by Jonny Kest, ( a student of Pattabhi Jois of Mysore India) and other renowned teachers at Jonny's Center for Yoga. He has also studied with Paul Grilley ( with a deep focus on anatomy and it's place in yoga asanas), and Nicki Doane and Eddie Modestini ( with focus on inversons and balance postures). He is registered thru Yoga Alliance (RYT) and maintains the Red Cross CPR certification. Michael is a graduate of the University of Mississippi in Fine Arts and currently serves on the Board of the Acadiana Arts Council. He also received his certification in Anatomy Biomechanics from the Cooper Institutes of Aerobics Research.

  Ashtanga Yoga is a specialized sequence of asanas (postures) based on the dynamic linking of rhythmic breathing and flowing movement. Immense heat is created deep within your core that acts to cleanse and purify the body. Focused breathing calms the mind and soothes the nervous system leaving one with a deep meditative calmness.
 
Monday 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm SLOW FLOW HATHA YOGA
  This slower paced class integrates the whole body in a challenging and restorative series of postures. You will move fluidly through inversions, spinal twists, hip and hamstring openers, and abdominal strengtheners with special emphasis on the breath.
  12:15 pm - 1:15 pm YIN YOGA
  Find the balance between your ambitious, energetic self and your peaceful, contented natural state. This calming Yoga practice emphasizes deep breathing and gentle deep tissue stretching. Yin Yoga is suited for all ages and levels of physical capabilities.
 
Tuesday 6:15 am - 7:30 am ASHTANGA YOGA
  Ashtanga Yoga is a specialized sequence of asanas (postures) based on the dynamic linking of rhythmic breathing and flowing movement. Immense heat is created deep within your core that acts to cleanse and purify the body. Focused breathing calms the mind and soothes the nervous system leaving one with a deep meditative calmness.
  5:45 pm - 7:00 pm VINYASA YOGA
  Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes one breath and one movement to build internal heat, strength and flexibility. This is a cardiovascular intense, flowing class that purifies the body and calms the mind. The quicker pace of the class is fun and raises your energy level.
  12:15 pm - 1:15 pm SLOW FLOW HATHA YOGA
