The aged practice of Kashmir Yoga is designed to return you home to the heart of what is natural. Kashmir Yoga is an ancient form of Yoga, derived from eighth century Kashmir Yoga teachings intertwined with functional anatomy and the latest insights into our nervous system has a magical effect on mind, body and heart, using imagery, explorations in asanas and spacious breathing, you may find yourself awakening into your 'light open free state'. Like many types of yoga, Kashmir Yoga is an ancient practice, dating back to 8th century. This type yoga is rooted in the ancient Hindu philosophy Kashmir Shaivism. More than an intellectual system, it focuses on experience of the Supreme Consciousness, which is based on basic principles: -Everything is a manifestation of the Supreme Consciousness. This supreme consciousness is the underlying foundation that makes up the universe -Consciousness takes on the form and the formless -Consciousness is characterized by awareness can be experienced through spiritual awakening -With practice, a person can steadily experience consciousness in his or her ordinary life. Proponents of Kashmir Shaivism believe that everything is a manifestation of the Supreme Consciousness. The goal of Kashmir Shaivisim is to merge in this Universal Consciousness through practice – with the help of grace, wisdom and yoga. The third method is where Kashmir Yoga comes in. The Difference Of Kashmir Yoga While hundreds of years old, its ancient teachings make its way to modern times, and is still being practiced by hundreds of followers. Kashmir Yoga incorporates philosophies which are meant to be read and understood. Likewise, it also includes classes where practitioners meditate and do breathing and poses. Like many forms of yoga, Kashmir Yoga promotes natural healing and provides a wide range of benefits for the body and the mind. These include: -restoration and realignment of the natural posture of the body; -reduction of body aches and pains; -better flexibility; -stronger joints; -stronger core; -better balance and coordination; -improved relaxation and lower stress levels; -body detoxification; and - improved sleep On top of these physical benefits, Kashmir yoga promotes inner healing and nourishes the emotional system. It is a meditative and spiritual process that provides sanctuary from the rushes of everyday life. Aside from these benefits, though, what makes Kashmir Yoga really different is that it is based on emotion instead of intellect. While there are principles and theories, the overall practice goes beyond that and encourages practitioners to “feel” and “be” instead of just “think”. Proponents of Shaivism believe that our intellectual understanding blocks our ability to fully reach the summit of yoga and realize our full power. With practice, however, we can feel or experience consciousness and thereby enjoy and celebrate the universe in all its complexity. Practicing Kashmir Yoga While Kashmir yoga still incorporates asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing), meditation and learning of scriptures, you should expect more than that. To this day, it remains to be one of the most transcendent and exclusive types of yoga. That being said, its initial steps are seemingly advanced and complex in comparison to other practices. Hence, it is recommended for those who have background on the principles of Kashmir Shaivism and those who have practiced other forms of yoga in the past. To start, beginners are recommended to start intensive courses on other forms of yoga including Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Laya Yoga and Tantra, which focus both on theory and technique practice before learning Kashmir Yoga.
