Svastha Yoga

Svastha Yoga is a program which was built on the teachings of Sri Krishnamacharya, one of the most renowned Indian yoga teachers and Ayurvedic healers of the 20th century. It was founded by A.G. Mohan, who was his personal student for eighteen years, together with his wife, Indra Mohan, who has also been teaching yoga for the past 35 years. Today, they are joined by their children Ganesh and Nitya Mohan who all teach under the Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda banner.

It is a professional program on yoga therapy that brings together aspects of Ayurveda, traditional yoga and modern medicine. The word Svastha means “to stay in one’s own abode” in Sanskrit, which means to stay in a state of wellness and health. This is the goal of yoga and Ayurveda.

Unlike yoga styles which are commonly practiced in studios, Svastha is designed with advanced practitioners and yoga teachers in mind. Of course, this is also a great practice for people who are in the medical field. The goal of these teachings is to help participants incorporate what they have learned in their daily practice and in their teachings.

The Svastha Yoga Program

The Svastha yoga program is delivered through seven different modules. These modules do not just focus on asanas and pranayama alone, but also on theoretical teachings. The modules are separate from each other, and can be attended separately or independently. They are as follows:

1. The first module focuses on the lower back, lower limbs and pelvis.
2. The second one focuses on the thoracic and cervical spine.
3. The third module tackles the anatomy of the person. It also introduces cardiovascular and respiratory disorders.
4. The fourth part is devoted to Ayurveda and pranayama or breathing.
5 and 6. Since yoga is also an exercise of the mind, it is only apt that the fifth and sixth modules focus on psychiatry or mental issues like anxiety, addictions, depression and stress.
7. Lastly, is the completion module, which focuses on integration of the previous modules as well as case studies.
