Solar Yoga

What is Solar Yoga? Solar Yoga is also known as Surya Yoga, this is an advanced yoga concept that teaches practitioners how to get energy and food from the sun’s rays as they gradually become one with the universe. The practice evolved from the Hindu belief that many supreme masters reside in the Himalayas, meditating on the supreme power without taking in any food. These masters are believed to be getting their energy directly from the sun, which is the eternal light of the world. Consequently, practitioners of this form of yoga hold the belief that everything a human being needs can be acquired from sunlight.

The concept behind Solar Yoga holds that the sun’s rays are filled with nutrients and energy that can all be used for both the physical and psychic development of any person. It is also believed that such development will ultimately lead to the attainment of your universal self or oneness with God. In other words, the photons your body absorbs from the solar system can enlighten you and smoothen your mind, thus allowing you to achieve the right balance of your body, mind, prana, and soul.

The more modern style of Solar Yoga includes a series of 47, which are typically referred to as Psycho-physicals, which was developed into a scientific format by Dr. Serge Raynaud de la Ferrier. To this day, yogis from Central and South America as well as Mexico are familiar with and continue to practice this style. This form of yoga has been around for at least 65 years and is also being practiced all over Europe, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Italy, among others.

Pre-requisites of Solar Yoga Practice

In practising Solar Yoga, these are the things you need to remember and follow:

1.)Practice only during sunrise or right before sunset, since the ultraviolet rays are at the lowest levels during these times.

2.)Wear light clothing, which allows the sun’s rays to penetrate your body much more easily.

3.)Have a drink of water or a light snack just before you begin the practice.

4.)It is advisable, although not required, for you to perform Solar Yoga right after taking a shower.

5.)Do not use sunglasses or any other protective eyewear during the practice

6.)Perform the practice while sitting on a mat, or if you find that uncomfortable, then you may use a chair.

7.)Rub the area between your eyebrows and then place a silver coin there. The coin usually falls off during the first few sessions; you don’t have to worry about that.

Before you even begin the practise, you should have let go of any fears you may have about the sun. In its place, you should develop love, devotion, and faith in the sun.

Meditation Proper

In the actual practise, you should stay in the sun and gaze at it without doing anything for about ten minutes. After that, close your eyes slowly and then bring all of your focus on the third eye position of the silver coin mentioned above. In due time, you should be able to meditate for longer periods.
